McDermott International has secured a significant engineering, procurement, construction, and installation (EPCI) contract from QatarEnergy LNG pertaining to the North Field South (NFS) Offshore Pipelines and Cables Project. This recent contract further expands McDermott’s involvement in the NFS initiative, complementing previous contracts for NFS Pipelines FEED, NFS Jackets EPCI, and the NFXP Topsides and Pipelines, which encompass the NFS Topsides.
NFS Infrastructure and Expansion Goals
The NFS infrastructure is pivotal for supplying feed gas to two newly planned LNG trains. This project is integral to the broader North Field Expansion Project (NFXP), which aims to elevate Qatar’s total LNG production capacity from the existing 77 million tons per annum (MTPA) to an impressive 142 MTPA.
McDermott’s Commitment to Qatar’s Energy Sector
Mike Sutherland, Senior Vice President of Offshore Middle East at McDermott, highlighted the company’s long-standing presence in Qatar, stating, “McDermott has been a key player in the offshore energy sector since the 1990s. We have witnessed and supported the growth of this industry and are eager to continue our partnership with QatarEnergy LNG for this vital offshore project.”
Neil Gunnion, McDermott’s Qatar Country Manager and Vice President of Operations, expressed gratitude for QatarEnergy’s ongoing trust, saying, “We are proud to have been selected once again to execute some of the most significant and strategically vital projects for QatarEnergy and QatarEnergy LNG. McDermott is now tasked with overseeing all offshore infrastructure related to Qatar’s extensive North Field Expansion, with a focus on local execution. Our primary operations in Doha, along with the QFAB fabrication facility in Ras Laffan, enable us to efficiently deliver complex offshore projects right here in Qatar.”
Scope of the EPCI Contract
The contract encompasses the EPCI of nearly 250 kilometers of both offshore and onshore gas pipelines, which will link five new offshore wellhead platforms to two new onshore LNG trains. Additionally, the project includes the installation of subsea composite power and control cables. Management of the project will take place from McDermott’s office in Doha, with fabrication support from the QFAB facility. The installation phase will utilize McDermott’s in-house marine assets, ensuring efficient execution of the project.
